Warehouse operations

An operation is a portion of work to be carried out by a person: picking orders, putting goods away, counting a rack. All of them share the same structure: a state, an owner and the option of being held.

The list

Columns: Created, Type, Step, Status, User, Items, Last update. Filters work by status and type.

Types: Pick, Put away, Stock check. The steps depend on the type — picking goes through Collecting and Packing, counting through Scope, Scanning and Review.

Starting work

The buttons above the list:

• New pick — picking,
• New put-away — put-away,
• New stocktake — a stocktake → Stocktakes,
• New opening count — an opening count → Opening count.

States

State	Meaning
Open	created, no work done yet
In progress	somebody has already picked or placed something
On hold	held, can be resumed
Completed	finished
Cancelled	cancelled
Preparing / Prepare failed	the line list is being built in the background, or the build failed
Reverted	reverted (stocktakes)

Hold pauses the work without losing it: what has already been placed keeps its movements. Finish operation closes the operation and leaves the remaining lines unprocessed.

Caution

Cancel operation does not undo movements that have already happened. Goods that were put away remain where they were placed; cancelling concerns the work, not the warehouse stock. For that reason an operation in which work has already been done cannot be cancelled without first reversing that work.

One operation, several people

An operation belongs to the person who started it. When somebody else opens it, the module presents two options:

• Take over — takes the operation over; the previous owner can no longer change it,
• Stay read-only — opens it for viewing; collecting, adding and finishing are disabled.

On a return to the operator’s own unfinished work, the module offers Resume or Start new.

If the selected orders already belong to another operation, the Existing operations found dialog appears with a choice: resume that one, resume and add the new orders, or start a new operation.

View and printing

The List / Warehouse map switch shows the work as a list or on the floor plan. The same bar prints the Pick list and Packing slips. The packing step carries the same bar, with the Split into parcels button and a switch that shows or hides the packing table.

By default, pressing a print button opens the document as a PDF. It can be sent to a printer instead. → Packing settings

Stations

An operation can be tied to a station: a Packing station or an Unpacking station. Stations are drawn on the floor plan and can be assigned to a specific person. → Floor elements
