Switching on quality control
With quality control enabled, goods arriving from a supplier do not become available for sale at the moment of receipt. They are moved to quarantine first and wait for an operator’s decision.
The mechanism requires two elements: an active quality control mode and a designated bin in which the goods wait. If no quarantine bin is defined, receiving ends with an error, because the check is never skipped automatically.
This page goes through the configuration in an order in which both conditions are met.
Before you start
Section titled “Before you start”For quality control to work, the warehouse has to receive purchase orders. The check is carried out between receiving and put-away, so deliveries have to be arriving. → Receiving
A defined course of action for goods that fail the check is also required. The final decision is one of two options: quarantine or scrapping. Scrapping is a stock write like any other.
1. Mark a bin as quarantine
Section titled “1. Mark a bin as quarantine”Stockly → Warehouses → warehouse → Bin Locations → open a bin → Bin role → Quarantine bin. An ordinary storage bin has no role and is the only type of bin used as a put-away target. Goods received under quality control are held in quarantine bins until they are inspected.
2. Switch the mode on
Section titled “2. Switch the mode on”Stockly → Operations → Quality Control → Global default → QC mode, set to All goods instead of Off. This is the last of the seven rungs of the hierarchy: it applies when no purchase-order line, variant, product, category, manufacturer or supplier rule matches.
Fail action determines what happens to goods that do not pass the check. Hold in quarantine leaves them where they are, Scrap writes them off.
3. Narrow it with rules
Section titled “3. Narrow it with rules”Checking every delivery is rarely required. The hierarchy allows a policy to be defined at the level it applies to:

Each rule is set to Required, Skip or Inherit (fall through). Inherit passes the decision to the next rung of the hierarchy. Where several rules match on one rung, Required takes precedence over Skip.
Checking it works
Section titled “Checking it works”Receive a purchase order for goods covered by a rule. The goods arrive in a quarantine bin instead of a storage bin and are not available for sale until a decision is made. Put-away offers them only after that decision.
When nothing is held back
Section titled “When nothing is held back”Three situations disable quality control without producing an error. The mode is switched off at every rung that matched; a rule closer to the article is set to Skip and takes precedence over a broader one; or the goods did not pass through receiving at all, because stock written by an import or by an external system does not go through this gate. → Quality control rules
