Bin locations
A bin location is the smallest unit of address in a warehouse: a shelf, a rack cell, a pallet, a container. It has a code, a capacity and, if it has been drawn, a position on the floor plan.
The list
Section titled “The list”Stockly → Warehouses → warehouse → Bin Locations.
The columns describe both the address and the location’s physical limits: Code, Label, Floor location, Floor, Element, Shelf, Column, Bin type, Dimensions, Volume, Max weight, Max units, Max SKUs.
The limits affect operations: bin suggestion at put-away checks whether the goods fit, so an inflated capacity produces proposals that cannot be carried out.
Adding a location
Section titled “Adding a location”Add bin location creates a single one. To create them in bulk use Generate Bins → Generating bins.
Row actions
Section titled “Row actions”The row menu offers:
- Edit — code, label and limits.
- Remove from floor plan — the location stays but is no longer tied to the drawing.
- Check this bin — starts a stocktake session for this one location.
- Split into multiple bins… — splits one location into several smaller ones.
- Merge with other bins… — merges several into one; capacities add up.
- Move to another warehouse — moves the location to a different building together with everything on it. The dialogue states this: the quantity travels with the location and is booked as a warehouse reassignment; nothing is shipped and no transfer is created. Locations with a role (receiving, transit and the like) belong to their building and do not offer this entry at all.
- Recompute capacity — re-derives dimensions and limits from the floor plan.
- Delete — removes the location.
Selecting rows offers the same work in bulk: Delete 12 bins, Print labels (12), Check 12 bins and Move 12 bins to another warehouse…, the last of which is the correction for locations that were mapped to the wrong building during the rollout. A location the module refuses to move is named with the reason, one line per location, instead of failing the whole batch.
Recomputing capacity
Section titled “Recomputing capacity”Recompute capacity overwrites manual values, so what it does is worth stating exactly:
- capacity is derived from the element’s geometry (size, shelf levels, width and depth divisions), the floor scale, and the location profile cascade: element → floor → warehouse,
- multi-cell bins keep their footprint — dimensions and limits are scaled by the number of cells they span,
- stock, reservations and floor plan assignments stay untouched,
- bins not placed on the floor plan are skipped,
- what is overwritten: dimensions, volume, fill factor and the max weight / units / SKUs limits.
Labels
Section titled “Labels”The list menu holds Print labels for all bins…, and a selection of rows prints labels for those rows only. → Bin labels
Finding goods
Section titled “Finding goods”Locations can also be searched from the goods’ side, because the floor plan has a search that highlights the location holding a product on the map instead of sending somebody to check. → Floor plan
