Floor plan

The floor plan is a drawing of the warehouse and, at the same time, the source from which the module derives capacities and picking routes. The module does not determine the layout; the position of every rack is drawn manually.

A warehouse consists of floors. Add floor creates one, and the Create new floor form asks for:

  • Floor name and Level (order),
  • Width (m), Length (m) — the hall’s dimensions,
  • Grid cell (m) — the grid resolution, i.e. how many metres one cell represents.

Default location profile sets the capacity template for the whole floor; an empty field inherits the warehouse setting.

A floor can be edited later (Edit floor) and deleted (Delete floor). The cog icon in the bar above the map opens that form from any view; while an editor is open it is greyed out rather than removed.

Edit stands in the bar above the map in every view. It opens What would you like to edit?, which names the two editors and states what each one covers:

  • Floor layout — racks, walls, doors and zones: adding them, moving them, setting their size. The map switches to the plan seen from above.
  • Bin arrangement — dragging bin locations onto the shelves of a rack. The map switches to the rack elevation.

Selecting a tile enters that mode at once; the footer offers only Cancel. The map is switched to the view the chosen editor works in, so the view no longer has to be found before the action.

Both modes end with the same Done button, which hands the map back to the view the editing was started from: entering the floor layout from the 3D view returns to 3D afterwards.

On a floor with no rack drawn on it yet, Bin arrangement is offered greyed out, with a hint that a rack has to be added in the floor layout first. Without the Editor privilege both buttons remain visible and inactive, and on a warehouse with no floors Edit is inactive as well.

In the Floor layout mode elements are added and moved: racks, zones, walls, aisles and links between floors. Each change is written as it is made, and the mode ends with Done.

The Bin arrangement mode ties bin locations to the cells of the drawing. That is what lets search show goods on the map and gives the picking route a geometric meaning.

When the chosen cell is taken, the module does not overwrite it; it asks: Swap places or Detach the other bin. A bin detached from the plan keeps its stock; it only loses its position on the drawing.

Leaving the rack elevation by hand also ends the mode. The map then stays on the view it was switched to, because that view is the operator’s own choice rather than one the editor made.

The 2D / 3D switch changes how the hall is displayed, and 3D Boxes adds the goods’ volumes. → 3D view

  • Capacities — bin dimensions derived from the element geometry and the floor scale.
  • Routes — the picking order laid out by real distance.
  • Search — the location of a product shown on the map instead of as a list of codes.
  • Bin generation — drawn racks turned into a full set of codes. → Generating bins
