Quality control

Quality control inserts a step between the delivery and the shelf: received goods go into quarantine and wait for a person’s decision instead of becoming sellable at once.

On the purchase order

The order card → the Quality control tab. It lists the batches awaiting a verdict: Product, Batch, Expiry, Location, Qty.

Two decisions:

• Pass — the batch is released to the receiving buffer; from then on it can be put away and sold,
• Fail — the batch is rejected.

Goods in quarantine are skipped by put-away, so they cannot end up on a shelf by accident.

If nothing is awaiting inspection, the tab states this.

What gets inspected

Not everything has to be. Rules are set across four dimensions:

• Stockly → Operations → Quality Control → Suppliers — a policy per supplier,
• → Categories — per product category,
• → Manufacturers — per manufacturer,
• → Products — per individual product.

This allows inspection to be limited to a new supplier, to sensitive goods, or to a manufacturer with a history of problems.

The simulator

Operations → Quality Control → Simulator answers “would this delivery go to inspection” before it arrives.

A product and, optionally, a supplier are selected, and the module shows the outcome, Would go to quality control or Would skip quality control, together with the rule that decided it and the full resolution trace.

This is the right tool for checking rules: simulating is cheaper than discovering at delivery that inspection covers everything or nothing.

Switching it on

The mechanism itself is switched on where it is used: Stockly → Operations → Quality Control → Overview holds both decisions: whether goods are inspected at all, and what becomes of a batch that fails, which either stays in quarantine or is scrapped. Out of the box inspection is off and a failed batch stays in quarantine. → Quality control rules
