Reorder suggestions

A reorder suggestion answers: what is about to run out and how much to order. It is computed from current stock, thresholds, demand and lead time.

Columns

Product No., Product, Supplier, Where from, Warehouse, Stock, Min Stock, Max Stock, Suggested Qty.

The Where from column decides where the goods should come from, because not every replenishment has to be a purchase. Part of the need is covered by a transfer from another building. → Replenishment suggestions

Filters: Product Name, Product Number, Supplier, plus a warehouse selector.

Creating orders

Two routes, deliberately different:

• Create PO from 12 selected — from the selected rows, where the selection is made explicitly.
• Create purchase order… (by supplier) — collects every suggestion for that supplier across the whole list, including further pages, and creates one order delivered to the chosen warehouse.

The second variant is the right one for routine reordering: it rarely concerns a single line and usually concerns everything running out at that supplier.

Caution

A product with no supplier assigned has no party to be ordered from; the module states this instead of creating an order with no addressee. Suppliers are assigned in supplier data.

An empty list

“No suggestions” means every product is above its minimum threshold, or that no thresholds are set. The second case is the common one in a fresh rollout. → Min/max thresholds

Where the quantity comes from

The quantity is not “min minus stock”. It accounts for:

• demand from sales history,
• the supplier’s lead time and its variability,
• safety stock derived from the product’s class,
• what is already on its way: purchase orders in transit and transfers between buildings,
• backorders waiting for goods.

That is why a suggestion can be zero for a product below its minimum: when the missing quantity is already on the road.
