Thumbnails
The thumbnail (poster) is the image shown in the gallery before the customer presses play. Mediaverse fetches a thumbnail automatically for most embedded sources and lets you override it per video.
Automatic thumbnails
Section titled “Automatic thumbnails”For embeds, Mediaverse downloads a poster image from the source provider when you paste the video URL:
- YouTube —
maxresdefault.jpg, falling back tohqdefault, sddefault, mqdefault, defaultif the high-res version is missing. - Vimeo — via the public oEmbed endpoint.
- TikTok — via the public oEmbed endpoint.
- Dailymotion — direct thumbnail URL.
Facebook and G-Core embeds do not return a thumbnail automatically — you need to upload one manually (see below).
For local HTML5 videos, the browser falls back to the first frame unless you provide a custom poster.
Custom thumbnails
Section titled “Custom thumbnails”You can override the auto-fetched poster on a per-video basis:
- Open the product → Media tab → pick the video.
- In the Mediaverse side panel, scroll to the Thumbnail section.
- Click Replace and pick an image from the media library (or upload a new one).
- Save the product.
The custom thumbnail is used in:
- The product gallery placeholder before play
- The product listing cover (if this video is the cover)
- The carousel slide thumbnail (PRO)
Play-icon overlay
Section titled “Play-icon overlay”Mediaverse draws a play-icon overlay on top of every video thumbnail. The selector that controls where the overlay appears is configurable in Settings → Plugins → Mediaverse → Video → Container selector to add play icon — useful if your theme wraps gallery items in custom HTML.
