First badge
This walkthrough creates a simple manual badge and assigns it to a few products. It takes about five minutes and covers the parts of the form you will use most often.
1. Open the badge module
Section titled “1. Open the badge module”In the admin sidebar, go to Catalogues → Product Badges. Click Add badge.
2. Fill the required fields
Section titled “2. Fill the required fields”- Name — internal label, only visible in the admin (e.g.
Sale Q2). - Text — the visible badge label (e.g.
SALE). Supports HTML and multi-language values. - Type — pick Standard for a manually assigned badge.
- Priority — leave at the default. Lower number wins when multiple badges compete for the same slot.
3. Configure placements
Section titled “3. Configure placements”The Placements card decides where the badge appears:
- Detail page — pick Image overlay, then choose the Image overlay slot (Left or Right).
- Listing page — pick Image overlay here too, with the same slot.
Leave Tilt 45° as Inherit from slot for now (we cover Angled ribbons separately).
At least one placement must be configured — otherwise the badge will not render anywhere.
4. (Optional) Style the badge
Section titled “4. (Optional) Style the badge”The Styling card lets you override the global defaults:
- Background color — e.g.
#e2231a(red) - Text color — e.g.
#ffffff(white) - Border radius — e.g.
4px
Leave any field empty to inherit from the slot, then placement, then global defaults. See Styling inheritance for the full order.
5. (Optional) Add an icon
Section titled “5. (Optional) Add an icon”The Icon card lets you pick from 460+ built-in SVG icons or upload your own. Set the position (left or right of the text) and the icon size.
6. Assign products
Section titled “6. Assign products”For a Standard badge, switch to the Assignment tabs at the top of the form:
- Products — pick the products that should carry the badge.
- Categories, Manufacturers, Product streams — bulk assign by membership.
You can also assign the badge from a product’s detail page later (see Quick assignment).
7. Save and check the storefront
Section titled “7. Save and check the storefront”Click Save. Open one of the assigned products on the storefront — you should see the badge on the product image. Browse a category — you should also see it on the product card in the listing.
What just happened
Section titled “What just happened”You created a Standard badge with image-overlay placement on detail and listing pages, restricted it to a list of products, and used the global default styling. The badge will render until you deactivate it or remove the products from the assignment.
Next steps
Section titled “Next steps”- Replace the manual assignment with a rule (e.g. only show on weekends).
- Turn the badge into a corner ribbon.
- Add a date schedule so the badge auto-expires.
- Explore the automatic badge types — Discount, New, Out of Stock, Top Seller.
